Impact of Bias on Learner Assessment

Over the past several years, diversity, equity, and inclusion have become hot-button issues within surgical education. Join Dr. Sarah Lund as she discusses the impact of bias on learner assessment with Dr. Amanda Cooper, the ASE DEI Committee Chair. Follow along as we discuss how bias can impact a learner’s educational experience and best practices for mitigating the impact of bias in learner assessment.

Dr. Cooper is an acute care and trauma surgeon at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, where she has been faculty since 2014.  She is a graduate of Vanderbilt University Medical School and the Indiana University General Surgery Residency.  She is a former Associate Program Director for the General Surgery Program at Penn State and is the current Vice Chair of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for the Department. She has been a member of ASE since 2018 and serves as the Chair of the DEI committee.
