Message from the President

The Association for Surgical Education is a leading organization in Surgical Education. The mission of the organization is to innovate, lead, and enhance the careers of surgical educators and surgical learners. The ASE has grown through the years expanding its offerings. This has been done based on the work of our previous leaders and the engagement of our membership. This year, we hope to build on the great work of the past. Using the values of empowerment, acknowledgement, and inclusion as our guiding light, we will further engage and harness the immense energy of our more than 1400 members, all of you, to enhance the mission of the organization. As your President, I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible and working with each of you in enhancing surgical education. I am appreciative of this opportunity.

Mohsen Shabahang, MD, PhD
ASE President, 2024-2025

ASE Common Purpose Diagram

The basis of this diagram was a discussion by the members of the ASE Executive Committee at the July 2024 Retreat, with input provided by the Board of Directors, Past Presidents Councils, and the membership via the Town Halls. The fundamental premise is that the common purpose of the ASE is to empower surgical educators. This diagram provides a visual depiction of this common purpose and focuses on the mission of the ASE. The five arms of the Strategic Plan are elucidated and the diagram also defines the “Who,” the “What,” and the “How.”
